Making Scale feel real
Instead of teaching scale factors from a textbook, I threw it out and let students design their own two-kilometer scale model of the solar system. They built every planet by hand, measured everything to scale, and problem-solved their way through the galaxy. What could’ve been a forgettable math lesson turned into a hands-on experience they’ll remember for life.

Using Nepal’s history as inspiration, my students built geometric flags that represented their own beliefs, values, and individuality. The project turned a technical skill into an act of storytelling — helping me see my students beyond the classroom and strengthen our connection. Geometry became a shared language for creativity, empathy, and growth.

how craftsmanship can pay off (literally!)
I started a woodworking program with nothing but a few tools, some donated lumber, and a big idea. After raising over $10K to get it off the ground, my students learned to design, 3D model, CNC, and market their own work — and earned it all back within a year. It turned out to be the most popular class in the school — because who doesn’t love learning skills that actually make money?

When I took over the cross-country program, it was small — barely enough runners to fill a bus. A few years later, we’d tripled the team size, raised over $250K, and qualified for championships four years in a row. Along the way, I became an event planner, chef, chauffeur, and cheerleader — proving that great programs are built on connection, not just competition.
